Residence Hall Closing

The residence halls will close at 6 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Any resident who needs to remain in their room past 6 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 must submit a Housing Extension Request Application via MyHousing.

Deadline to apply is April 30, by 11:59 PM. Late applicants will be assessed a $50 late fee.

Reasons for Requesting a Housing Extension:

  • Late Flight:
    Students must email a copy of their flight reservation confirmation to reslife@fdu.edu. Depending on the number of days requested, there may be a charge.
  • Late Final on Wednesday, May 15, 2019:
    If your final begins at 3 PM,
    you may vacate your room by 7 PM, Wednesday, May 15.

    If your final begins after 5 PM, departure time will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

  • Graduating students participating in commencement:
    Graduating students who reside over 120 miles away from FDU will qualify to request a Housing Extension, to remain in their room until 6 PM on May 21, 2019.
  • Other:
    Send an email explaining your request in detail to reslife@fdu.edu. Requests are not guaranteed. If approved, the charge will be determined by the number of days.

Additional Information:

  • Residents are responsible for vacating the residence halls by the date and time established by Housing and Residence Life. Failure to vacate the residence halls by the approved date and time will result, at minimum, in an automatic fine of $250 for an unathorized late check-out.
  • Residents are responsible for scheduling, by May 8, an Express Check-Out. Failure to schedule an Express Check-Out will result in a $75 fine.
  • Housing Extensions approved for late flights, and/or other reasons, depending on the number of days requested, may incur a housing charge.
  • Students should not assume that their Housing Extension Request has been approved until they receive an email notification from Housing and Residence Life and should be prepared to vacate their room by 6 PM on May 15 if not approved.
  • Overnight guests are not permitted during this period.
  • Any resident in violation of a Housing and Residence Life or FDU Policy will have their extension immediately revoked and face disciplinary charges.
  • The latest date a Housing Extension will be considered is Tuesday, May 21. Only graduating students who reside over three (3) hours away from FDU qualify to request a Housing Extension until this date.
