New Jersey military recruits to be honored at FDU

Madison, NJ (May 2, 2017) — The Office of Veterans Services at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Our Community Salutes of North Jersey will honor graduating high school seniors who have committed to enlist in the United States Armed Forces, along with their parents, at a recognition ceremony in the Italian Gardens at FDU’s Florham Campus at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 10th.

This is the first annual recognition ceremony for high school seniors who are enlisting in the military after graduation from the eight Northern New Jersey counties. Over 250 high school recruits from the region have enlisted in the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and New Jersey National Guard.

The name of each recruit will be called.

Speakers include: President Dr. Christopher Capuano, Fairleigh Dickinson University; Dr. Ken Hartman, founder of Our Community Salutes; Lieutenant Colonel Edward Croot, commander of the U.S. Army Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion; Lieutenant Colonel George A. Peasant, commander, 314th Recruiting Squadron, U.S. Air Force; and Major Joseph Gagnon, commander, Recruiting and Retention Battalion, New Jersey National Guard, National Guard Joint Training Center.

The West Point Military Academy Regimental Brass Quartet will play “The Star-Spangled Banner” as well as each branch’s service song.
