John Pope is a 1976 graduate of Stockton State College in Pomona, New Jersey, and holds a BA in Criminal Justice. He joined the Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, Police Department in June of 1979, and in December of that year, he graduated from the New Jersey State Police Academy and was certified as a Police Officer.
Since that time, he has served as a Patrol Officer, a Crime Prevention Officer, a Patrol Supervisor, and a Patrol Squad Commander. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1986 and Lieutenant in 1987, and served as a patrol squad commander until 1999. He was reassigned to the position of Operations Bureau Commander in 1999 and was subsequently promoted to Captain.
He is a 1994 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, 81st Session. In March of 2000, he graduated from the FBI National Academy, Class #200, in Quantico, Virginia. He received his Master of Administrative Science (MAS) degree from Fairleigh-Dickinson University in 2002. He retired from the Egg Harbor Township PD in February of 2007.
Mr. Pope has been teaching classes at FDU since 2002, including several courses in the MAS program, the New Jersey Certified Public Manager program, and various leadership-based courses offered by the School of Administrative Science, including being the lead instruction in FDUís Division of Continuing Educationís Executive Leadership Program for Public Safety Personnel and the Supervision of Law Enforcement Personnel program.
