Gerard Cleaves

Senior Lecturer

Mr. Cleaves joined FDU in 2003 with more than 20 years' experience in business and organizational development. This experience comes primarily in providing global supply chain management and decision-support software and consulting for industries serving multinational chemical and pharmaceutical companies. He worked for Exxon Chemical Company, Chesapeake Decision Sciences, and consulted for industry through AtlanTec, a company he founded in 1995. He has degrees in chemical engineering from Lehigh University and Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

At FDU, Mr. Cleaves teaches graduate MBA courses in Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Management, Foundations of Management, Organizational Behavior and Leadership, and the Strategic Management Capstone, as well as undergraduate classes including Ethical Issues in Social Institutions and Fundamentals of Business. Previously, he taught Pharmaceutical Global Supply Chain Management at Stevens Institute of Technology and Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility at Monmouth University. His interests are in Leadership, Ethics, Social Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility, Innovation, Sustainability, Strategy, Strategic Planning Under Risk and Uncertainty, and Global Supply Chain Management. He has extensive expertise in on-line and hybrid education and in introducing controversial ethical issues into the classroom. He headed the Florham Scholars in Business at Florham Campus for 10 years and is now co-Director of FDU's award-winning Enactus Team, advocating innovative business solutions addressing social problems to create a better world.

He serves on the Board of Directors of the Market Street Mission in Morristown, NJ — an organization that has served the needs of the homeless, helpless, and hopeless of northern NJ since 1889. His interests are in advocating for the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission in Asbury Park which serve the needs of the New Jersey shore area and in engaging partners to have a meaningful impact on the growing opioid addiction crisis in NJ and the Nation. He also has played the last chair, third trumpet in the Westfield, NJ Community Band and is famous for his world-class BBQ sauce.
