STEM Workshops

Curricular Content for upcoming SIE workshops

( Grades k-5, 6-8 and 9-12)  

Math: Mathematical and Scientific Topics closely tied to the Common Core Curriculum for grades k-12 will be presented and integrated with innovative and grade appropriate pedagogical techniques and modern technologies

* Foundation in whole numbers, mathematical operations and problems they solve (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), fractions and decimals, negative numbers and shapes 

* Applications of demanding math concepts and procedures (k-5)

* Hands-on learning in Geometry (6-8)

* Algebra and its applications (6-8)

* Probability and Statistics with real data applications ( 9-12)

* Applications and Modeling for the real world focusing on college and career readiness (9-12)



Science: In planning for the adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), the following workshops will be presented as requested by individual schools or collective groups of districts.

*Science Practices: Understanding Scientific Explanations, Generating  Scientific Evidence Through Active Investigations, and Analyzing Scientific Knowledge

* Physical Science:  Matter, Forms of Energy, Energy Transfer/Conservation and Forces and Motion, and Sustainability

* Life Science: Organization and Development, Matter and Energy Transformations, Interdependence, Heredity and Reproduction, and Evolution and Diversity

* Earth Systems Science: Objects in the Universe, History of Earth, Properties of Earth Materials, Energy in Earth Systems, and Climate and Weather

*Environmental Science: Matter and Energy Transformations, Properties of Earth Materials, Climate and Weather, and Biogeochemical Cycles
