DAAD Young Ambassadors Program 2016/17
The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD), an organization promoting higher education in Germany and providing funding to study and research there, has announced this year’s participants in the Young Ambassadors Program. Congratulations to Catarina Calderon Garcia, a student of Communications & International Relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Vancouver Campus who was nominated for this role by Jobin Mojtabavi, Director of Student Services. Ms. Calderon Garcia, who studied abroad at Zeppelin Universität in Germany, has been named a Young Ambassador for the 2016/2017 academic year.
The Young Ambassadors Program honors students who have studied, researched or interned in Germany in the previous academic year to serve as liaisons for DAAD in the U.S. and Canada. All 2016 Young Ambassadors were invited to New York City to participate in a four-day seminar. The objective of the training workshop is for participants to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to effectively promote study and research in Germany on their campuses. Students learn about the German higher education and research system as well as the wide range of DAAD funding opportunities. In addition, the training focuses on refining public speaking and presentation skills and meeting new people.
During the academic year, DAAD Young Ambassadors promote study and research in Germany by working with their universities' study abroad offices, volunteering at study abroad fairs, organizing classroom visits, info sessions, and answering their fellow students’ questions. Ms. Calderon Garcia will not only be promoting study abroad in Germany, but she will also be representing Fairleigh Dickinson University, Vancouver Campus in her role as a DAAD Young Ambassador. You will find more information on Catarina Calderon Garcia on the DAAD website at: https://www.daad.org/en/about-us/network/young-ambassadors-profiles/
