Academic Convocation 2017 Celebrates 75 Years

The new academic year opened with the Academic Convocation held on September 6 at the Metropolitan Campus.

The keynote address celebrated the 75th anniversary of the University’s founding, and was delivered by Judith Kaufman, psychology and director, PsyD and MA in school psychology; and director, University Core (Metro). “I’m going to give the punch line away right now and say that our success these past 75 years is because FDU is like a family to so many,” she said. At the University since 1988, she emphasized the priority the University puts on “connections and caring” for its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the campuses, the community and the world. “With our leadership, the committed faculty and staff and our wonderful students, FDU will ... thrive far beyond our 75!”

Presiding over the convocation was Gillian Small, University provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, who introduced those on the platform. She also introduced the college and school deans who in turn introduced their new faculty, see “Faculty Status Report 2017–2018.” Because Dean Michael Avaltroni, pharmacy/health sciences, (Flor), was unable to attend (at a conference), Small introduced his school’s new faculty.

The Distinguished Faculty and Campus Pillar Awards were presented by Small and the campus executives.
