Kyungnam University has paved the way for its growth since its foundation of Kookmin College (formerly known as Kookmin Daehakkwan in Seoul) in 1946 and its relocation to Masan in 1956. The university's faculty and staff of more than 900 and its over 15,000 students have been exerting their utmost to make the institution a 21 century's model regional university with specialization in the globalization and localization under the university's motto of truth, freedom, and creation. With the university motto as its guideline, its educational goal is to produce well-educated professionals, community leaders and true world citizens by guiding students in their discovery and formation of ideas about humanity, nature, society, culture, and scientific theory and its application.
