Private Fundraising Policy and Approval Process

The Corporate and Foundation Relations Office, a unit of the Office of University Advancement, assists faculty and professional staff in the development of fundraising proposals from private sources consistent with the mission and objectives of the University.  Private sources of funding include corporations, foundations, groups and associations.

Due to the growing amount of fundraising activity at the University, we have found it necessary to put in place a simple policy that will help to facilitate the process and ensure that all appropriate parties at the University are informed about current and future fundraising activity. Because the Office of University Advancement receives so many requests, it is unlikely that advancement staff will become involved in any projects less than $5,000.

However, it is very important that the Office be notified of all proposals and gifts/grants to ensure that certain corporations and foundations are not being over-solicited by the University, and to properly record and recognize all gifts, no matter what the amount. All donations, including gift-in-kind (equipment, etc.) must be processed by the Office of University Advancement.

The attached form clearly describes the approval process. It has two purposes:  (1) to gain approval of the project from your department chair, dean and provost; and, (2) to serve as the formal sign-off on the final proposal that will be sent to various funding sources. The form is also available via email.
