2017 Move-in

Move-in day is Saturday, August 26 for all new first year and transfer students. Returning students move-in day is Sunday, August 27. Students attending the last Orientation on August 24-25, will move in on August 23 – 24. The first day of class is Monday, August 28. Please read this information carefully prior to your arrival as it is important you complete the dashboard tag (located on the reverse of this sheet) and label your boxes with your name, hall, and room number.

We are expecting many residents to move in on both days! Arrival times are staggered throughout the day based on the floor that you are moving onto. This will help keep traffic moving and fire lanes open.

Saturday, August 26, 2017

For all First Year and Transfer students arriving on Saturday, August 26, 2017:

When you arrive on campus, Public Safety officers will direct you park your car in a parking lot for Check-In at the Recreation Center. After Check-In is completed, you will be directed to drive your car to the appropriate residence hall to unload; officers and FDU volunteers will be directing traffic to your residence hall. It is advisable to pack your belongings as if you will have to carry them in and up to your room. Please make sure all boxes are labeled with your name, hall, and room number. After your car is unloaded, it must be immediately parked at a designated parking area. Since we do not want you to wait in the wrong line, please know your residence hall and have this dashboard tag handy (on the back). Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Instructions and What to Expect

  • On your Check-In date, you will need to have the Dashboard Tag form below printed out as your parking permit.  Each student is requested to move in with ONLY ONE VEHICLE.
  • The guard will need to see the completed dashboard tag on the bottom of this page (please fill it out BEFORE arriving on campus).
  • You will then be permitted to proceed to your residence hall to unload your vehicle. If necessary, you may be directed to a holding lot until space becomes available in the unloading zone.
  • When you arrive at the curb outside your residence hall, be prepared to unload EVERYTHING from your vehicle and then immediately move the car to a designated parking lot, before moving your belongings into the hall.
  • FDU does not provide any hand trucks or carts during move-in. Please plan accordingly and be prepared to lift, carry, and move all materials. (Home improvement stores do allow you to rent handtrucks and moving aids.)
  • FDU volunteers will assist when available, to expedite the move-in process for first-year and new students on Saturday.  Volunteers are helping as expediting hands and work all move-in day.
  • Vehicles will be allowed at the curb for no more than 15 minutes. Unaccompanied vehicles violate FIRE CODE and will be subject to ticketing and towing. Therefore, a licensed driver from your party must stay with your vehicle in the unloading zone at all times. We look forward to seeing you!  Have a safe trip!
