Coping

During college, you may be faced a multitude of stressors –

  • sorting out your independence and identity
  • establishing and maintaining meaningful relationships
  • coping with anxiety and depression
  • finding confidence and direction
  • dealing with body-image or excessive substance use
  • handling academic demands.

To help with these challenges and more, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers a variety of mental health services that integrate physical, emotional, academic, spiritual, social, and cultural well-being.

Counseling

Feelings, beliefs, attitudes, spiritual life, and physical well-being are closely intertwined. Therefore, CAPS utilizes a wellness approach to counseling involving the integration of mind, body, and spirit for the purpose of living more fully in the moment and improving the quality of life in proactive and positive ways. This preventive approach helps individuals achieve mental, physical, and emotional wellness.

A Next Step

Most students come to CAPS when their usual ways of handling problems are not working well. You may find, for instance, that even after talking to friends or family and making attempts to solve your problems, you still feel anxious, sad, or lost. We encourage you to explore these pages to learn more about the services CAPS provide.

Accessibility

The Fairleigh Dickinson University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) mission is to promote students’ psychological wellness and academic success by providing students with high quality, culturally competent counseling and mental health services. CAPS is strongly committed to addressing the mental health needs of a diverse student body through timely access to consultation and connection to clinically appropriate services and programs.

CAPS recognizes that some students may require accommodations. Upon request, counselors will assist with coordinating a confidential, accessible space on-campus to provide the student with appropriate services. Students requiring accommodations are encouraged to inform the counseling center while scheduling an appointment by phone or indicating their needs on the registration card.

Students are encouraged to contact CAPS staff at 973-443-8504 to request appropriate accommodations for counseling, psychiatric services, and CAPS programs and events.
