Soorikian Exhibits "AGAINST THE GRAIN then and now"
Teaneck (February 27, 2017) – Soorikian’s latest group of paintings, “AGAINST THE GRAIN then and now,” will be on display at the Edward Williams Gallery on Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus from Monday, February 27, through Friday, April 14, 2017.
A reception will be held on Sunday, March 26, from 2-4 p.m., featuring chamber music by the All Seasons Chamber Players in the auditorium at 3 p.m.
The Gallery is located in FDU’s Edward Williams Hall, 150 Kotte Place, Hackensack, N.J. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There is no admission charge. For directions and more information, call 201-692-2449.
About the Artist
Soorikian is the director of the Edward Williams Gallery and an adjunct professor of cultural arts and drawing and painting at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is the recipient of three grants from the New Jersey State Museum, the Silvermine Guild of Art, and the Haverford, Pa. Arts Center. Soorikian has exhibited in juried shows in the Albright Gallery, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, The Newark Museum, Johnson and Johnson Headquarters Gallery and others in the USA. Her work has been shown internationally in Japan, Argentina, France and Cyprus. Soorikian’s paintings, “Nude” has been chosen for the 20th Annual Exhibition View Points 2017 at Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art in Newark, N.J. from June 1 through June 30, 2017.
Soorikian received her master of fine arts from Columbia University, New York and BFA from University of the Arts, Philadelphia, Pa.
Soorikian writes that “the human body, without narrative or locale, dominates my painting. I welcome the struggle between the opposites of figuration and the imperatives of paint.”
