Fairleigh Dickinson University receives $2.8 million from New Jersey for health science facilities
MADISON, NJ (June 30, 2016) — On the recommendation of New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education Rochelle Hendricks, Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) has received a grant of more than $2.8 million from the State of New Jersey for health science facilities at FDU’s Florham Campus.
The full grant of $2,854,095 will go towards the renovation of the third floor of FDU’s pharmacy and health science center at 230 Park Avenue in Florham Park. The center currently houses the University’s pharmacy and nursing programs and the newly established Daniel and Martina Lewis Center for Healthcare Innovation and Technology, and will become the home to an expanded array of health science programs over the next five years.
The rehabbed space at 230 Park Avenue will feature new simulation labs equipped with patient simulators and a simulated cadaver lab, student learning space to promote collaborative study and small group learning, communal learning spaces, breakout rooms and other small group study spaces.
“New Jersey’s commitment to funding higher education in the health sciences is an investment in our students and the future of healthcare in the state,” said Christopher A. Capuano, president of Fairleigh Dickinson University. “With this generous grant, we will be able to significantly expand our health science facilities—building on our already strong programs in nursing and pharmacy and adding new programs in the future.”
FDU’s award comes from the Higher Education Capital Improvement Fund (CIF) and is part of a $180 million block of awards for 32 New Jersey institutions. The money comes from the 2012 Building Our Future Act, in which voters approved a $750 million General Obligation construction bond, and the CIF. The Legislature has 60 days to consider the General Obligation bond projects and 45 days to consider the CIF projects. If the Legislature takes no action, the projects will be approved.
