Lisa Braverman named Dean of Petrocelli College

Fairleigh Dickinson University has named Dr. Lisa Braverman Dean of the Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies, effective July 1, 2016.

“An accomplished leader in continuing and adult higher education, Dr. Braverman comes to FDU with a rich variety of experiences working for New York metropolitan area colleges and universities,” said Christopher Capuano, University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Moreover, she has a proven track record in multi-campus environments focusing on the special needs of nontraditional learners, and her programs have regularly demonstrated enrollment growth and innovation while increasing access and retention.”

Dr. Braverman’s leadership roles have included serving as the Chief Academic Officer of Jones International University, Associate Provost for Adult Programs at Long Island University, the Dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at the SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY FIT), the Executive Director for College Outreach at SUNY Farmingdale State University, and the Dean of the School of Extended Education at the New York Institute of Technology.

Among her many highlights, at LIU she developed new blended degree programs and certificates, as well as customized programs for veterans, and she managed most of the college's articulation programs. She also led a joint effort involving academic and administrative offices that incorporated adult pedagogy, prior learning assessment, and workforce-ready professional tracks.

At SUNY FIT, she articulated a comprehensive vision for continuing education and led the international expansion and growth of online learning. She implemented the first enrollment strategy for the College's evening/weekend degrees and increased enrollment 25 percent. She also forged new relationships with local corporations, governmental offices, and neighborhood associations and education agencies. In addition, she established FIT's first Center for Innovation Management, a corporate education unit.

In her career, she further has designed and developed online learning strategies, as well as training programs and new offerings, and she has managed study abroad programs and created public programs in partnership with prestigious cultural institutions.

Dr. Braverman has also held numerous leadership roles in major professional adult education organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of the University Professional Continuing Education Association and the Association of Continuing Higher Education.

She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Spanish and Latin American Studies from New York University and her B.A. from Brandeis University. She is fluent in English and Spanish, and can also speak French and some Italian, Portuguese and Mandarin.

Her wide range of skills and experiences working with nontraditional learners in regional, virtual and global communities, coupled with her well demonstrated leadership abilities in continuing education, make her an excellent selection to lead Petrocelli College.
