"Does Torture Work?" A discussion by John Schiemann

MADISON, N.J. (February 22, 2016) — John Schiemann, associate professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson University Florham Campus will be discussing his book “Does Torture Work?” on March 2, 2016. The event will be taking place in the Orangerie in the Monninger Center. Schiemann will also be joined by Robert Houle, associate professor of history.

schiemann book When the Senate released the “torture report” in 2014, America learned the CIA had unimaginable and brutal ways to interrogate prisoners. In his book “Does Torture Work”? Schiemann discusses the negative consequences of torture and how they far outweigh the perceived benefits when evaluating torture's effectiveness.

Schiemann teaches various courses at FDU on game theory, comparative politics, political philosophy, and torture. He has written numerous articles in political science journals, including the “American Journal of Political Science.”
