Symposium for STEM Educators at Fairleigh Dickinson University

 

Madison, NJ (November 5, 2014) – The STEM Institute of Education (SIE) at Fairleigh Dickinson University and The Record are hosting the Second Annual Symposium for STEM Educators on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 7:45 a.m.–3 p.m.

The symposium, titled A Fresh Look at Math Instruction and Working With the New Standards- CCSS & PARCC, will be enlightening and educational. The day will be packed with presentations covering the timely topics of standards and assessments in mathematics, crosscutting principles and what it all means for the future of classroom instruction. Included will be presentations that will dig deeper into grade level attributes. Math teachers, administrators, faculty members, and NJ DOE officials will discuss concrete aspects of the new standards and the assessment model being implemented in New Jersey. The day will begin with a plenary session that will provide a concise view of the new standards and the new PARCC assessments. The break-out sessions will provide instructional strategies and practical tools for grade level focus on instruction.

Featured presenters include, Mr. Paul Rafalowski, PARCC ELC member, NJ Cadre’ and Mathematics Coordinator at the South Plainfield School District, Mr. Michael Luke, Education Program Development Specialist at the  NJ Department of Education, Ms. Kim Feltre, K-12 Science Supervisor at  Hillsborough Township Public Schools, Dr. Vicki Cohen, Director, Peter Sammartino School of Education at  Fairleigh Dickinson University and Mr. Nicolae Borota, Mathematics Specialist at the NJ Department of Education

The event will be held at the Florham Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University and is open to K-12 math teachers, pre-service teachers, school administrators, faculty members, and parents. All educators will receive professional development credits. Registration is required and space is limited.
