Fairleigh Dickinson University launches new certification program in market research

Teaneck, NJ (November 18, 2014) — Fairleigh  Dickinson University's Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies announces the January 2015 launch of its Market Research Certificate Program. The six-course professional development program is under the direction of Dr. James T. Heisler, veteran market research industry executive (ORC International, Harris Interactive, Nielsen) and author of the upcoming A Job-Seeker's Guide to Careers in Market Research.  The goal of the Certificate Program is to turn out highly marketable individuals prepared to work as research analysts in a market research agency or a corporate research department.  The program will be offered in evening classes at the university's Metropolitan campus in Hackensack, NJ.  Students will take five courses covering all aspects of market research, including qualitative and quantitative research methods, research communications, and the application of market research to business issues. In the sixth course, a practicum, they will design and execute an original research study.
“This is the first curriculum of its kind in the New Jersey-New York City metropolitan area,” says FDU Associate Dean Deborah A. Fredericks. “The program is geared to recent college graduates and MBAs, as well as individuals who are just starting out in the field.”
Course details and fee information can be found here.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in market research is expected to grow by 32% from 2012 to 2022, making it one of the top career fields for women in terms of projected hiring, average annual salaries, gender equality in pay, and lifestyle factors like physical demands and stress levels. “Yet despite impressive growth projections, the profession has done a poor job of promoting itself and companies provide minimal guidance, training, or funding for career aspirants,” says Heisler. “The FDU certificate program and my upcoming career guide are intended to help address this need.”
Heisler has been at the forefront of new developments in the field, has supervised and mentored dozens of market research professionals, has been a speaker at industry conferences, and has authored articles and papers on various market research topics. His comprehensive career guide will be published in Spring 2015 by Paramount Market Publishing, Inc. More information can be found here.
