Teaneck, NJ (September 28, 2014) FDU’s Gene Barnett Speakers Series will feature “An Evening with J. Courtney Sullivan” at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, in Wilson Auditorium, Dickinson Hall, Metropolitan Campus.
Sullivan’s first novel, "Commencement," which focuses on the experience of four friends at Smith College (her alma mater), was published in 2010 to critical acclaim and became a "New York Times" bestseller. It also was included in Oprah’s Book Club of “Five Feminist Classics to (Re)read as a Mom, Wife and Writer.” "Maine," her next novel, was named one of the Top 10 Fiction Books of the Year by "Time" magazine.
"The Engagements," Sullivan’s latest novel, is a rich, layered novel spanning a hundred years and deals with four unique marriages while tracing the history of diamonds in America and how they came to symbolize deep hopes for everlasting love. It was one of "People" magazine’s Top 10 Books of 2013 and the "Irish Times" Best Book of the Year. It will soon be made into a motion picture produced by Academy award-winner Reese Witherspoon.
Sullivan’s essay’s have appeared in "The New York Times Book Review," "Elle," "Glamour," "New York" magazine, "The Wall Street Journal," "Men’s Vogue" and "O, The Oprah Magazine." She holds a degree in English literature from Smith College in Northampton, Mass.
Copies of Sullivan’s books will be available for sale and signing after the Q&A session.
The evening is open to the general public with tickets at $10. Tickets will be available at the door starting at 7:15 p.m. on the night of the lecture. Admission is free for faculty, staff and students with valid FDU IDs. There are no advanced tickets sales or reserved seating.
