Black History Month events on the Florham Campus

Madison, NJ (February 11, 2015) — The Maxwell Becton College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office and the Dean of Students Office at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Florham Campus are sponsoring several Black History Month events in 2015.
February 5 at 5:30 p.m. Attend a screening of the film, "Belle." This 2013 release tells the story of an illegitimate, mixed-race daughter of a British admiral who comes to play an important role in the campaign to abolish slavery in England. The film will be shown in Dreyfuss, Room 125.
February 9 at 5:30 p.m. Nicole Franklin, an award-winning filmmaker, television producer/director/writer, will share her insights on being an independent filmmaker in today's Hollywood. She will speak about her recent interview with "Selma" director, Ava DuVerney. The event will be held in Dreyfuss, Room 125.
February 11 at 6:30 p.m. A staged reading of "Blues for an Alabama Sky" by Pearl Cleage will be in the Barn Theater. It will be directed by Taira Nails, and will feature Dorian Andrews, Tevin Barns, Torre Caldwell, Mark Carr, and Margaly Monelus. Stage directions will be read by Danielle Bouie and faculty advisor, Associate Professor Stacie Lents.
February 18 at 4 p.m. A reading and discussion from Jeffery Renard Allen with selections from his new, critically-acclaimed novel “Song of the Shank." The event is being held in the Orangerie. Allen is an American poet, essayist, short story writer, novelist, and an MFA in creative writing faculty member.  
February 24 at 7 p.m. A Hot Topics Panel, "'I Can't Breathe': The Police and the African American Community," will be held in Lenfell Hall. Meghan Sacks, associate professor of criminology at the Florham Campus, will moderate the panel. Panelists will include: Jason Williams, assistant professor of criminal justice at the Metropolitan Campus; Greg Donaldson, associate professor of criminal justice at John Jay College; and more!
