Editor’s note: On September 27, 2017, the Fairleigh Dickinson University community celebrated the inauguration of President Christopher Capuano. With many students in attendance, Capuano emphasized, “We must stay true to our values, adapt when necessary and always do what’s in the best interests of our students … We will honor our past, while building a brighter future.” Nina Disla, a Global Scholar and sophomore studying secondary education and history at the Metropolitan Campus, shares the student perspective.
It was an honor to attend President Capuano's inauguration. As a student from the Metropolitan Campus, it was beautiful to have the chance to walk through the Florham Campus and see what was set up for President Capuano. The tents were beautifully lit, in honor of the inauguration and the 75th anniversary at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Listening to the multiple speakers and their words, not only of encouragement, but also of overwhelming pride for President Capuano was truly touching. There was nothing but excitement as we all shared that special moment with President Capuano and his family.
As a representative of the Student Government Association (SGA) — I’m the sophomore senator — it was an honor to hear Metropolitan Campus SGA President Akshay Patel speak about our campus and how proud and grateful we are to have President Capuano at FDU.
At inauguration it was amazing to see how we all have the same common goal for FDU: growth. Mentioned multiple times in different speeches, everyone made sure that the concept of growing and expanding Fairleigh Dickinson University, making it the future, was inspiring. I am excited to see what's to come for President Capuano and for FDU as a whole!
