2012 Convocation FULL

On September 19, 2012, the University community celebrated its annual Academic Convocation. The event, which officially marks the new academic year, honored several outstanding faculty and staff members. David Daniel, associate professor of creative writing, delivered the keynote address titled "Some Thoughts on Words and Music." Daniel's address, a rumination on creativity and teamwork, closed with the line, "may the candles of our lives be touched with fire."

Distinguished Faculty Awards

This year's honorees were Vicki Cohen, professor of education and director of the Peter Sammartino School of Education, Distinguished Faculty Award for Service; James Dougherty, associate professor of chemistry and co-director of the School of Natural Sciences, Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching; and Bruce Peabody, professor of political Science and director of prelaw and legal studies and the Florham Institute for Lifelong Learning, Distinguished Faculty Award for Research and Scholarship.

Pillars of FDU Award

The Pillars of FDU Award is given to staff members who make extraordinary contributions to FDU and who have been at the University for more than 10 years. At the College at Florham, this year's awards were presented to Glenn Priesmeyer, lieutenant, Public Safety, and Shirley Smith, director of the Wellness Center. Priesmeyer is pictured here with College at Florham provost Peter Woolley. Smith was not able to be present at the ceremony.

Presidential Citation

Sheldon Drucker, interim president, awarded a Presidential Citation to Carol Creekmore, associate vice president for enrollment services, for her outstanding accomplishments, in particular her leadership in the implementation of Degree Audit, a comprehensive online checksheet system.

Drucker also presented a Presidential Medal to longtime volunteer and unofficial library staff member Evelyn Katz for her service to the University community.
