Ted Kammer has been a member of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department for the past 24 years. He has been assigned to various units, including the Traffic Safety Unit, the Crime Prevention Unit, and a newly created Community Policing Unit in which he supervised as a Sergeant. Ted served as Detective Sergeant in the Criminal Investigation Division before being promoted to Lieutenant as Patrol Shift Commander. He was also instrumental in bringing the D.A.R.E program to Egg Harbor Township in 1988 and conducted countless seminars to youth, adults, and senior citizens in reference to home security, personal safety, danger stranger, why kids do drugs just to name a few. Ted currently serves as the Police Department’s Public Affairs Officer.
Ted has been very active with the youth in the Township and is known for the development and implementation of Police Explorer Post #94 which consist of young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21, who express an interest in the filed of law enforcement. In the 23 years of its existence, Ted has seen twenty – four of the explorers go on the become sworn Police Officers in Egg Harbor Township and other area departments such as New Jersey State Police, Agents for United States Customs and Maine State Police.
Ted has been recognized by several agencies such as the American Legion, as Officer of the Year in Atlantic County. He is a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award which is the Highest award presented by the Boys Scouts of America to an adult for service and dedication to youth. Also recognized by the National Association of Police Athletic Leagues as the Juvenile Crime Prevention Specialist of the Year and was voted by his fellow workers as the Egg Harbor Township Employee of the Year.
Ted us a graduate from the Northwestern University Traffic Institute – School of Police Staff and Command of which he was selected as a class officer by his classmates. A graduate of the West Point Command Leadership Program sponsored by the N.J State Association of Chiefs of Police. Ted has received Bachelor of Science, majoring in Administration of Justice from Thomas Edison State College and Master of Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Ted served on the Executive Board and as President of the New Jersey Crime Prevention Officer’s Association and currently as Vice Chairman of the New Jersey Regional Community Policing Institute’s Governing Board.
Ted is certified as a Police Instructor by the New Jersey State Police Training Commission. He also instructs for the Regional Community Policing Institute in the areas of Domestic Violence, Community Policing, Anti Terrorism Awareness for the Community and Mid Level Mangers Course for Police officers. Ted was instrumental in the revision and update of the Township’s Emergency Management Plan.
