With over 30 years of public safety experience, Leo P. McGuire has remained on the forefront of innovation, technology, and mentoring others to realize their potential. Whether it was serving as an Army military policeman, as a police officer and supervisor, or leading Bergen County's largest law enforcement agency as Sheriff, he maintained a balance between effective leadership and providing the critical safety services our citizens expect and desire.
As Sheriff, Leo McGuire administered the operations of the Bergen County Sheriff's Office, ensured his staff had the tools necessary to become one of the nation's best and tripled the amount of training and education they received annually. He did this while advancing his own education by obtaining his Master's in Business Administration and later attending the Harvard-Kennedy School of Government for the Senior Executives Program as well as the prestigious FBI National Executive Institute and National Sheriff's Institute.
Selected as a member of the National Sheriff's Association's Board of Directors, Leo also served as the President of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey and Vice-President of the Sheriff's Association of New Jersey before retiring from law enforcement in 2010. He continues supporting the community by serving on college boards and as President of the Hopes and Dreams Foundation for Children and as the NJ Vice-Chair of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Dept. of Defense program, while operating a consulting business, LPM Strategies, LLC. He is Strategy and Risk Management Consultant for several charter schools, and serves as Director of Governmental Affairs for Real-Time Technology Group, a company that delivers secure technology solutions for managing mission-critical information challenges: personal identity verification, credential management, and business process control and continuity.
Leo is a regular contributor in print and on TV news on topics related to politics and law enforcement.
