John Pope is a 1976 graduate of Stockton State College inPomona, NewJersey, and holds a BA in Criminal Justice. He joined the Egg HarborTownship, New Jersey, Police Department in June of 1979, and inDecember of that year, he graduated from the New Jersey State PoliceAcademy and was certified as a Police Officer.
Since that time, he has served as a Patrol Officer, a CrimePreventionOfficer, a Patrol Supervisor, and a Patrol Squad Commander. He waspromoted to Sergeant in 1986 and Lieutenant in 1987, and served as apatrol squad commander until 1999. He was reassigned to the position ofOperations Bureau Commander in 1999 and was subsequently promoted toCaptain.
He is a 1994 graduate of the Northwestern University School ofPoliceStaff and Command, 81st Session. In March of 2000, he graduated fromthe FBI National Academy, Class #200, in Quantico, Virginia. Hereceived his Master of Administrative Science (MAS) degree fromFairleigh-Dickinson University in 2002. He retired from the Egg HarborTownship PD in February of 2007.
Mr. Pope has been teaching classes at FDU since 2002,including severalcourses in the MAS program, the New Jersey Certified Public Managerprogram, and various leadership-based courses offered by the School ofAdministrative Science, including being the lead instruction in FDU’sDivision of Continuing Education’s Executive Leadership Program forPublic Safety Personnel and the Supervision of Law EnforcementPersonnel program.
