John Henry Newman has written that Knowledge “is an acquired illumination, it is a habit, a personal possession, and an inward endowment…., that there is a Knowledge, which is desirable, though nothing come of it, as being of itself a treasure, and a sufficient remuneration of years of labour.”

This quotation is the aim of my life and the aim of my teaching. When I can get students to realize and be excited that all knowledge is relevant to their lives, and that the more they know of the world, the more they will know of themselves, I know I have succeeded in a small way to making the world a better place for all. As I was urged on to better ideas and ideals by my professors, so I hope I can do so for my students.
