My Award Letter

If you are eligible for financial aid from Fairleigh Dickinson University, you will receive a financial aid award letter. New students receive their initial award letters by mail. Continuing students are sent award notifications to their FDU email account and may view their awards via WebAdvisor.

The award letter provides a list of the financial aid available to you to assist you in covering the costs of education for the academic year. The aid offered is based on your anticipated housing plans and the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

The EFC is calculated from the information you reported on your FAFSA. A federal formula calcuates the EFC, which is an estimate of how much a student and their family can contribute toward educational expenses. While the EFC is not intented to be the amount a student and family is expected to pay the university, it provides a measure of financial strength by which financial aid award eligibility is measured.

The Cost of Attendance is an estimate of the total cost to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University and includes both direct and indirect costs to attend for the academic year.

Direct Costs include tuition, fees, room and board (for on-campus residents) - costs that you can expect to be billed to your FDU account.

Indirect Costs are additional expenses that are considered necessary to attend a university (but not billed to you by the University). They include books and supplies, transportation and miscellaneous expenses. These expenses vary with each student (for example, if you live at home or off campus, your living expenses are considered indirect expenses)- however an estimated amount is used for the purposes of financial aid.

Estimated Indirect Costs for full-time students for the 2016-2017 academic year are:

On Campus Resident

Commuter Student*

Off-Campus Resident*

Books and Supplies

Room & Board

**Commuter Student budget is based on a dependent student residing at home. Off-campus resident budget is based on an independent student residing off campus.
