Pathway Programs at Fairleigh Dickinson University

Undergraduate and Graduate international applicants who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements for direct admission to FDU, may be eligible for one of our pathway program options.

FDU's pathway programs cater to students from a variety of backgrounds-ranging from students who have no English language proficiency and/or who have not taken an English examination to students whose English test scores are just below the minimum requirement for direct entry.

Pre-University Program for Undergraduate Freshmen (PUP)

  • English Proficiency Requirement:
    • TOEFL IBT: 60-78
    • TOEFL PBT (revised): 45-58 (total of three sections)
    • IELTS: 5.5
    • Pearsons PTE-A: 45-52
    • ELS Language Center: Completion of Level 110 EAP
  • One semester program including a combination of English and academic courses
  • Earn up to 11 credits towards your bachelor's degree

Pre-Master's Program for Graduate Students (PMP)

  • English Proficiency Requirement:
    • TOEFL IBT: 68-78
    • TOEFL PBT (revised): 51-58 (total of three sections)
    • IELTS: 5.5
    • Pearsons PTE-A: 50-52
    • ELS Language Center: Completion of Level 110 EAP
  • One semester program including a combination of English and academic courses
  • Earn credits towards your master's degree

The ELS Language Center and Conditional Admission to FDU

  • English Proficiency Requirement:
    • No English test results required
    • Intensive English program intended for students who require full-time English language study prior to enrolling at a university
  • Available for all undergraduate and select graduate programs
  • Direct entry to FDU upon completion of the program-no TOEFL/IELTS/PTE/SAT required
  • ELS language center located on FDU's Metropolitan Campus with full access to all FDU facilities
