A.S. in Radiography
Radiologic technology is a health-care discipline that utilizes ionizing radiation for diagnosis of disease. The radiographer, a person who produces images of the human body for diagnostic purposes, is under the supervision of a physician.
The radiography program is sponsored by The Valley Hospital in , Ridgewood, N.J., and has an affiliation with Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Valley Hospital School of Radiography is accredited by the New Jersey Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners and the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
The course of study to become a radiographer is an intensive, 24-month education that results in an Associate in Science degree in Radiography with a Certificate in Radiography. It is designed for those who wish to learn the basic and specialized area of radiologic technology. All university courses are held on Teaneck- Hackensack Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University, and clinical education is held at The Valley Hospital. Following the program completion, graduates are eligible to take the certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and for licensure by the New Jersey Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners.
A student applying to the A.S. in Radiography program must meet the admission requirements of The Valley Hospital and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Acceptance by Fairleigh Dickinson University does not guarantee acceptance to The Valley Hospital School of Radiography.The faculty of the radiography program has clinical expertise in a variety of areas in radiologic and therapeutic modalities, as well as extensive teaching experience.
The Valley Hospital is a fully accredited; acute care, not-for-profit, 451-bed community hospital serving Bergen County and adjoining communities. The Valley Hospital is affiliated with the New York Presbyterian Health System, which also includes Valley Home and Community Care, Valley Health Medical Group, and numerous outpatient facilities. The Valley Hospital is fully accredited by Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and licensed by the New Jersey State Department of Institutions and Agencies.
The Henry P. Becton School of Nursing and Allied Health is located in Dickinson Hall on Teaneck-Hackensack Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University. This facility includes classrooms and clinical laboratories with interactive video, computers, computer laboratories and distance-learning capabilities. FDU is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and licensed by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education.
