M.A.T. - Elem. Education/NJ Certification Grades K-6


The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is a graduate program for individuals who hold a baccalaureate degree in the liberal arts or sciences and wish to enter the teaching profession. This program provides an efficient path to state teacher licensure. Classes are scheduled for the convenience of students who combine the rigors of study with the demands of work and family.

Degree candidates must successfully complete 36 credits in the following courses of which:

  • 22 credits are taken in courses required by the New Jersey Administrative Code for teacher certification
  • 6 credits are required for EDUC6584 Computer as a Teacher's Aid: Curriculum & Instruction, and EDUC6819 Language Development & Literacy II.
  • 2 credits are required as EDUC7812 Final Project.
  • 6 credits are required as electives within the School of Education.
