B.A. in Political Science/M.A. Political Science
5 year Combined Degree Program in Political Science
The School of Criminal Justice, Political Science, and International Studies offers a combined degree program in political science. This program gives the students the opportunity and advantage to combine their undergraduate and graduate studies. With the approval of their academic advisor and the program director, students can take up to three (3) designated graduate courses that fulfill the requirements for both the undergraduate and graduate degrees, thus accelerating completion of their M.A. in Political Science in less time. Students who elect to go this route will receive a 40% off discount rate towards the Master’s level component.
Students who would like to participate in this program during their junior year should meet with an advisor well in advance for approval of the appropriate courses taken during their undergraduate semesters. The program requires up to nine (9) graduate credits during the students’ undergraduate career. A preapproved graduate course will satisfy the requirement of taking the undergraduate political science capstone course, POLS 3313 Problems in International Politics. A three-credit (3) capstone graduate component, POLS 6800 Masters Research or Comprehensive Exam, must be taken toward the end of the M.A. degree requirement. In total, 144 credits are required to complete the 5 year combined degree program.
