#QUEST students may take/substitute PSYC 2204 Child Development. If an UG course is substituted, then the QUEST student must add an approved EDUC GR course.

Students must satisfy all core requirements and specific departmental requirements for their liberal arts/science major in order to be eligible for a baccalaureate degree. Students in the QUEST Program must major in a liberal arts/science discipline and will complete 31 credits as a concentration in early childhood elementary education. Fifteen of the 31 education credits are “dual” credits that count toward the completion of both the BA/BS and the MAT degree. No more than 15 dual credits may be taken as an undergraduate and these are completed during a student’s junior and senior years. A minimum of 121 credits are required to complete a BA/BS degree. Students who are unable to complete the required courses as undergraduates will complete them in year 5, or additional time, if needed. QUEST students who complete 16 graduate credits in their undergraduate program must complete a minimum of an additional 20 graduate credits (total of 36 graduate credits) to earn their Masters degree. All Students enrolled in QUEST must meet at least annually with their QUEST advisor to plan for and review FDU program requirements as well as state certification requirements. Students who have not taken a biology, hygiene, physiology or substance abuse course must take the State approved Health Examination to fulfill this certification requirement. Prior to Apprenticeship Teaching, a passing score on the Praxis is required.

During year five, students completing the MAT Degree program may choose electives from one area of specialization, (i.e., ESL, special education, instructional technology); or they may chose from a variety of areas from an approved list subject to approval of the advisor. Students seeking dual teacher certification should focus their electives in a specific certification area in addition to their area of specialization.
Students admitted to QUEST in their sophomore year will begin their education specialization courses at the graduate level in the second semester of their junior year. Eligibility for graduate courses in education in Years 3 & 4 will be based upon the following criteria: 3.0 cum GPA, competencies demonstrated by portfolio assessments, and recommendation of faculty advisor.
In order to complete the Master of Arts in Teaching program in 5 years or less, some students may need to take courses in summer and winter sessions in Years 2-5 depending upon their particular program requirements and approval of their QUEST and Liberal Arts/Science advisors.
QUEST students may attend the study abroad program at FDU Wroxton, England in their junior or senior years. Students admitted to QUEST in their sophomore year should plan to attend Wroxton in their senior year unless an appropriate sequence of courses is planned with the advisor for attendance at Wroxton in their junior year.
