  • Cohort of Faculty and Students Builds Community of Like-Minded Sustainable Change Agents

The 2009 Graduate Certificate Program in Managing Sustainability, a 6-8 weekend program comprised of 13 accelerated core courses, addressed state-of-the-art sustainability practice relevant to critical business areas. For those possessing a baccalaureate degree, the program was distinguished by a:

·     Powerful and practical, hands-on educational experience

·     Strong focus on developing leadership skills for sustainability action

·     Cohort-driven, sustainability-focused, executive network

Tailored for executives from corporations, consulting firms, small businesses, non-profits, and “green teams,” the program enabled graduates to incorporate sustainability into their organizational and departmental strategies and operations for exceptional sustainability-aligned outcomes. Each participant developed and executed a strategic, organizational sustainability project related to their own enterprise, working in partnership with a professional executive leadership coach who provided an opportunity to practice new leadership and team development competencies. A post-baccalaureate certification was conferred upon completion.

3. COHORT OF FACULTY AND STUDENTS BUILDS COMMUNITY OF SUSTAINABILITY CHANGE AGENTS

"The collaboration provided a connection to professors and students beyond anything I’d experienced.   I have been in touch with all my classmates, professors and adjunct professors since the class has ended and rely on them as resources and friends. This great course has created an extremely valuable community of practice leaders."

-  Mary Reilly, NJ Green Team Leader

"The crowning achievement was a deeply enriching dialogue between dedicated faculty and a small cohort of talented participants. I highly recommend this program to anyone aspiring to both learn and experience sustainability management in a graduate business school environment. "

OTHER TESTIMONIALS - First Cohort 2009/2010

"Throughout my corporate career I have had the opportunity to participate in development programs at GE, Disney Institute, etc. which have all been great; however, ISE GCP was a transformational experience.   ISE faculty and executive coaches provided our cohort with the necessary context, business foundation, case work, tools, and exercises which helped me tremendously improve my impact through collaborative, sustainable leadership"

 -  Kerry Mowry, former GE executive

"The program provided me with opportunity to change careers. My participation in GCP gave me the tools and confidence that will allow me to utilize my operations and finance expertise in assisting companies to be both more environmentally friendly and fiscally re-sponsible. The facility was amazing and the field trip, life changing. Sustainability means more than being green to me as a result of GCP. I recommend our certificate program to anyone who wants to be in action".

                                                                           - Joan Simpson, former Verizon executive

"I would strongly recommend this program for a variety of different audiences who share the common concern relating to Environmental Sustainability and Responsibility. From a business and corporate perspective, the GCP Program assists professionals with gaining insight and knowledge into the complex and changing world of environmental sciences and governmental regulations. These learnings and dialogues support efforts to move organizations forward in identifying, implementing and reporting on beneficial actions that directly affect our planet.

In addition, the program offers the critical functional and leadership based elements that strengthen skill sets and become the building blocks of creating positive change for the individual, business and overall environment".

                                                            - Nancy Ernst-Towner, Broadridge executive

"I recommend our certificate program to anyone who wants to be in action about sustainability, develop their leadership skills, and expand their knowledge about current international aspects and practices. The expertise, support and dedication of the faculty was one of a kind, and made it possible for each of us to take our projects forward. The partnership with INCAE University brought candid conversations about the worldwide issues on sustainability, laid different perspectives on the table while extending our classroom learning with field visits - and making it a lifetime experience. We started the program as students and faculty, but ended it as a unified community who cared and supported each other - with the learning that our individual differences were in fact our main competitive advantage in finding ways of collaboration and co-creating our future together".

                                                                                    - Meric Ozgur, Schindler executive

"My expectation going into this graduate program was to become a horizontal subject matter expert on key sustainability topics in learning areas such as supply chain, metrics, marketing, global issues, etc. - and I am fully satisfied in these achievements. However, I must say that the more vertical learning area benefits related to self-development qualities necessary for collaboration and leadership development were a welcome surprise. Self-organizing, thought leadership, reflection sharing, action inquiry and manner of speaking are just some of the techniques learned and practiced. This whole experience is the great value I appreciate as I travel on this professional and personal journey".

                                                            - Paul O’Conner, Environmental planning consultant

"Both the information on sustainability as well as the collaborative nature with which the information was given provided untold benefits. The course covered the marketing, supply chain, business case, and internal (employee) commitment too. The collaboration provided a connection to professors and students beyond anything I’d experienced (and I was the President of my class in Grad School.)  I have been in touch with all my classmates, professors and adjunct professors since the class has ended and rely on them as resources and friends. This is a great course".

                                                                   - Mary Reilly,  NJ Green Team leader

"Attending the FDU GCP program on 'Managing Sustainability' for me has been a key milestone in my transition from single dimension of CSR to a triple bottom line driven Sustainability approach and expertise. It gave me a big picture understanding of Sustainability principles while giving me the leadership and operational skills to manage multiple challenges around making sustainability a life style and a rewarding career."

                                                                                      -  Priti Thakker, Transitioning to Green
