Dr. Gail Rattinger

Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice
Dr. Gail Rattinger joined the School of Pharmacy in September 2012. As the Director of the Pharmacy Practice Division and Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Dr. Rattinger leads curricular development in the area of population-based sciences and public health that complements the foundational integrated pharmacotherapy sequence. Additionally, Dr. Rattinger teaches pharmacy practice and population-based science courses, provides mentoring to students and faculty and continues pursuing her health services research interests.
Dr. Rattinger received her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Occidental College, her PhD in chemistry from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her PharmD from University of California at San Francisco. Additionally, upon completing her PharmD, Dr. Rattinger completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research at the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Pharmacy.
After completing her pharmacy training in 2009, Dr. Rattinger joined University of Maryland Baltimore School of Pharmacy in the Pharmaceutical Health Services Research Department as an Assistant Professor and Director of Pharmaceutical Research Computing Center. In this position, Dr. Rattinger taught in the professional and graduate programs, mentored PharmD and graduate students and conducted research in the area of pharmacoepidemiology and health outcomes research in geriatric populations with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease. While at University of Maryland Baltimore, Dr. Rattinger was awarded the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) New Faculty Fellowship in Geriatric Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Science as well as a National Institutes of Health (NIH) K12 Building Interdisciplinary Research in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) Scholar award. Dr. Rattinger is a registered pharmacist in New Jersey and Maryland.
Dr. Rattinger has multiple peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Clinical Therapeutics, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Clinical Therapeutics, American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy and PLOS ONE. She has given presentations on her research at national and international meetings including the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference, Gerontology Society of America Annual Meeting and the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research Annual International Meeting. Further, prior to completing her pharmacy training, Dr. Rattinger worked in the household and personal products industry for a number of large companies and holds multiple patents. She brings expertise in technical project management and leadership skills from her previous private sector experience as a Technical Director for a Fortune 100 company.
Dr. Rattinger facilitates the development of a PharmD program that prepares students for expanded future pharmacist roles.
