Dr. Michele Barto has been a member of the International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management adjunct faculty since February, 2001. She became a full time faculty member in July 2006.  She teaches many courses for the Community College Partnership program in Southern New Jersey and for the Hospitality Master’s program. These include: The Core courses of Global Challenge and Perspectives on an Individual, Advanced Writing, Public Speaking, Professional Communications, Professional Presentations, Intercultural Communications in the Global Workplace, Curriculum and Instruction for Hospitality Educators, Introduction to Graduate Studies and Research, and Organizational Communication and Conflict Management and several in the Reading Specialist Masters Program for teachers through the Community College Partnership.  

As a life time educator, Dr. Barto began her career as an elementary school teacher for 25 years in the Atlantic City Public Schools in New Jersey. During that time period she has written language arts curriculum for the school district and served on numerous committees including: strategic planning and curriculum renewal for language arts literacy, TQM, Site Based Management Council, and multicultural education. As a Reading Specialist and trained educator in the fields of literacy and ESL, she has presented staff development workshops both in and out of the district for teachers at all levels, including adult education. She is currently consulting in school districts in Atlantic, Cape, and Ocean Counties in New Jersey as a Reading Specialist. She continues to present numerous professional development workshops in literacy and ESL teaching strategies in New Jersey and other states as well. She has completed research for her Doctoral Dissertation in Best Practices for teaching struggling readers and writers. She received her Doctorate in Education in Curriculum and Instruction in December 2005.

Dr. Barto is currently developing several online courses at Fairleigh Dickinson University that will be included in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Some titles include: Communication and Gender and Society, Disaster, and Disease, and Grown-Up World: Work/Life Adults. She finds online teaching to be a challenging and exciting way to move students into the vast and competitive world of Global communication and technology that is needed for success in today’s work world and society. As a previous Adjunct Instructor for Walden University, she became enthused with the online environment.

Dr. Barto is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, ASCD, and the International Reading Association.

She is also a member of International CHRIE. She also has an alliance with NJTESOL and SRI ETTC as a conference presenter and consultant.
