Cindy Lopez, Sr. Paralegal
Cindy Lopez has been a paralegal for twenty years. She has worked in several areas of law such as personal injury, municipal law, wills and estates, family law and most recently, disaster recovery law for a firm assisting Super Storm Sandy businesses and homeowners with their insurance claims on the Jersey Shore.
She received her Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies from Brookdale Community College in 1995, where she served as an appointed Member of the Board of Directors for their Legal Studies Department which participated in analyzing the needs of their paralegal students, suggested curriculum recommendations, interfaced with paralegal employers and resulted in the successful accreditation of their paralegal curriculum by the American Bar Association. She also served as a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Paralegal Ad Hoc Committee. She has assisted in curriculum design and textbook choices for the business and legal assistant courses where she taught at The Stuart School and Ocean County College.
In 2000, she recognized the need for fellow paralegals to connect and founded the internet’s first website for New Jersey Paralegals, NJParalegal.com, and its online newsletter, Paralegal Press. At the time, it was one of the only resources for paralegal development, jobs and education.
Ms. Lopez became recognized as an advocate for paralegals and was asked to conduct seminars on matters of career development, ethics and the most efficient use of paralegals in law firms, which was a challenge at that time She spoke at the Garden State Alliance Paralegal Convention, Estrin LegalEd seminars in NYC, the New Jersey State Bar Association Convention in Atlantic City and the Middlesex County Bar Association Convention where she had the honor of working with Hon. John J. Hughes (Ret.), United States Magistrate Judge for the District of New Jersey.
She has been published in the New Jersey Law Journal, Legal Assistant Today Magazine, Lawcrossing.com, the Paralegal Career Starter, 2nd Edition, Paralegal Press and several local and national paralegal legal publications. She serves as an adjunct for Fairleigh Dickinson University and advises paralegal students and graduates on resume writing and creating LinkedIn profiles. She also conducts webinars and seminars with local and national companies on legal career development and professional branding.
