Thomas Cannavo Esq. is a life-long new Jersey Resident and has been a member of the New Jersey bar since 1985. He attended Rutgers College and Rutgers Camden Law School and retired on September 1, 2010 after 25 years as a prosecutor.

Mr. Cannavo was an Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor for eighteen years, an Atlantic County Assistant Prosecutor for two years, and a Deputy Attorney General in the Division of Criminal Justice for four years.

For twenty five years, Mr. Cannavo has specialized in criminal appellate matters with a special concentration in DWI and municipal court matters.  He is a certified criminal law instructor and supervised all Ocean County municipal prosecutors for over ten years. He is the author of the Municipal Court Appeals Chapter of the New Jersey Prosecutors Manual and has lectured Statewide on numerous occasions on DWI and Refusal issues such as sentencing and post-conviction relief proceedings.

Mr. Cannavo has been the attorney of record in numerous appellate cases, both published and unpublished in the Appellate Division and State Supreme Court, including State v. Widmaier, 157 N.J. 475 (1999) and State v. Bruns, 172  N.J.  40 (2002). He has also been the attorney of record in numerous federal habeas cases and is a member of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
