Ms. Abitante is “Of Counsel” to the law firm of Shimalla, Wechsler, Lepp & D’Onofrio, LLP., where she has been associated since 2007. She was judicial law clerk to the Honorable James B. Convery, lead matrimonial Judge in Essex County from 2006 to 2007. She was an associate with the law firm of Ruane and Zuber, LLC., from 2005 to 2006, where she had been a paralegal since 2002.
Ms Abitante is trained as a Family and Divorce Mediator and as a Collaborative Divorce Professional. She is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and the New Jersey Collaborative Law Group. She is also a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (C.D.F.A) and holds a New Jersey Real Estate License since 1998.
She is an active member of the New Jersey State Bar Association- Family Law, Dispute Resolution, Elder Law and Real Estate Law sections, the Essex County Bar Association and the Somerset County Bar Association. She serves as an Early Settlement Panelist for Somerset and Hunterdon Counties.
Prior to obtaining her law degree, Ms. Abitante worked for several years as a financial analyst. She is the mother of three children and an active volunteer in her community. She currently serves as a Director of the United States Naval Academy Parents’ Club of New Jersey.
