FDU's Certificate in Financial Planning again named to top 35


MADISON, NJ For the fourth year in a row, Financial Planning Magazine has named Fairleigh Dickinson University as one of the top 35 Great Schools for Financial Planning.

In selecting the FDU's Financial Planning Certificate Program, part of Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies, the magazine relies on a group of national experts consisting of both financial planners and academics. The program is the oldest and largest in New Jersey registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Washington DC.. Fairleigh Dickinson University was one of the first schools in the country to offer the program.

To receive a Certificate in Financial Planning students must successfully complete six courses:

  • Financial Planning Process (combination of Fundamentals of Financial Planning and Insurance)
  • Investment Planning
  • Income Tax Planning
  • Retirement Planning
  • Estate Planning
  • Financial Plan Development

The program consists of 270 hours of instruction. To use the CFP® Certification mark, candidates must also pass the CFP Certification examination, fulfill the experience requirements  and subscribe to ethical  standards.

This national recognition is significant because CFP Board currently certifies 372 financial planning educational programs Including certificate programs and those designed for undergraduate, master's and doctoral students. Through the various educational programs, students can choose from curriculum formats that include traditional classroom-based courses, online versions as well as blended partnerships with self-study and Instructor led options.

The program attracts financial advisors, bankers, insurance producers, wealth managers, accountants, CPAs, tax managers and employee benefits professionals. The program is attractive to career changers seeking a new career who are committed to the study required to succeed. Participants can look forward to acquiring a wide range of proficiencies essential for success in the financial planning industry. The program is approved for Continuing Education credits for licensed NJ CPAs, and NJ Insurance Producer's licensees.

The Department of Labor's occupational outlook states that within the field of personal financial planning which the Department expects to grow faster than average through 2018, "financial advisors with CFP® certification are expected to have the best opportunities".

Applications are now being accepted for the Madison, Hackensack and Eatontown locations.
