FDU Motorcycle Safety Education -

2017 Registration is OPEN!

BRC Classes run March through November.


Please NOTE: Participation does not guarantee successful completion. Students may be removed if they can not meet the objectives of riding exercises and will not be eligible for a refund. ALL RIDERCOACH DECISIONS REGARDING SAFETY ARE FINAL. Motorcycles and Helmets provided for BRC, APRC, Retest Sessions and Remedial Private Lessons.
Students without proper riding gear will be dismissed.


SPECIAL RIDER Training Series PRICING

COMPLETE Rider Training Series (IME+BRC+BRC2+ARC): $625
Starter Rider Training Series (IME+BRC): $400
Improved Rider Training Series (BRC+BRC2): $425
Advanced Rider Training Series (BRC2+ARC): $250


Introduction to the Motorcycling Experience (IME)
Motorcycle Control Acquaintence: $100


Basic RiderCourse (BRC) Requirements

We Supply Motorcycles and Helmets: $325

  • Ability to ride a bicycle.
  • If you are under 5' tall, please visit your local motorcycle shop to be sure both your feet touch the ground when seated on a 125cc or 250cc motorcycle.
  • Notarized parental consent if under the age of 18.

Please bring with you:

  • Photo I.D. and NJ Driver's License or Motorcycle Permit
  • FDU BRC receipt and Statement of Understanding
  • Over the ankle footwear (broken-in), leather preferable, minimum of 1-inch above the ankle bone.
  • DOT approved eye protection.
  • Long sleeve jacket or shirt.
  • Long pants of durable material. MUST be free of defects.
    (NOT Sweatpants, slacks, jogging suits/flared pants.)
  • Full-fingered gloves. We STRONGLY recommend leather.
  • Rain gear, since classes run rain or shine.
  • Snacks and beverages.
  • Prompt, 100% attendance, in the order the curriculum is presented. Late students WILL be dismissed.

Students with a valid NJ Driver's License who successfully complete the BRC may be eligible for the NJ MVC Road Test Waiver.


Retest Options Requirements

Must have taken a BRC at FDU within 30 days
for Retest Options in BRC or BRC Day2 Riding

  • Same requirements  for gear and approvals as BRC listed above
  • RiderCoach recommendation of Group or Private Lesson Retest
  • Retesting students must provide FDU with
    • NJ Driver's License or Motorcycle Permit with Photo I.D.
    • Date of BRC (Within 30 days of Retest Option)
    • Knowledge Test scores and Individual Skills Score Sheet
    • Up to 26 points for Group Retest Option (no training)
    • Up to 32-40 points for 2-hour Private Remedial Lesson (with Retest Option fee)
    • FDU Retest Voucher (RiderCoach Approval).

One-time Retest Option allowed by NJ State Law.
Students may opt to retake the BRC at a discounted rate.


Intermediate Riding on FDU Motorcycle
BRC Day2 Riding Requirements

BRC Day2 Riding Practice: $175
RETEST Option Available within 30 days of BRC.

Please bring:

  • NJ Driver's License or Motorcycle Permit with Photo I.D.
  • Date of BRC (Within 180 days of Retest)
  • Knowledge Test scores
  • Individual Skills Score Sheet
  • FDU Retest Voucher (RiderCoach Approval) to enter class
  • BRC Rider Handbook for Classroom refresher
  • Same requirements for gear and approvals as BRC listed above
  • Proper Protective Riding Gear

PrerequisiteBRC (within 1 month for Retest Option) 


Defensive Driving Course Requirements
BRC-2 License Waiver
on Student Motorcycle

Basic RiderCourse-2 (License Waiver available)
Classroom & Riding (BRC-2): $125
Passengers: $25 

Successful completion of this course qualifies NJ riders for a two-point reduction of traffic violation points, and possible insurance discounts.
(License Waiver students must notify Office upon registration, and bring NJ Motorcycle Permit and NJ Driver's License to class).

Prerequisites: Current Motorcycle License is required. Student-owned vehicle with current registration and proof of insurance. Check Tire Pressure COLD, Ride to our Classroom.

  • Motorcycle License/endorsement. (NJ Driver's License and NJ Motorcycle Permit for License Waiver course).
  • Your own motorcycle. If borrowed, must present written note signed by the owner, authorizing its use for the MSF course.
  • Current motorcycle insurance and registration.
  • A mechanically sound motorcycle with properly inflated tires and fully charged battery. *
  • DOT approved helmet with visor or eye protection.
  • All protective gear as listed above (in BRC). Students without proper riding gear will be dismissed.
  • Prompt, 100% attendance, in the order the curriculum is presented. Late students WILL be dismissed.
  • Rain gear, snacks and beverages
  • T-CLOCS completed under RiderCoach supervision

Prior to Class
Read BRC-2 Classroom cards and T-Clocs Inspections 

NOTE: Riders must successfully achieve the objectives of Exercise 1, Control at Low Speed, in order to continue. They must also successfully achieve the objectives of subsequent exercises in order to complete the course. BRC-2 SKILLS PLUS: If in the experience of the RiderCoach, the Rider is not experienced enough to carry a passenger, they will be required to complete the riding solo. Passengers participating in the course must not adversely affect the safety and learning for other participants in the program.

*BRC-2 students should complete a T-CLOCS motorcycle inspection list after registration, confirming the operation condition with which the motorcycle must comply. If, according to MSF standards, the motorcycle is in an unsafe state of repair, the student will not be allowed to continue with the program, nor will they be eligible for a refund.


Advanced RiderCourse: $150

Student Motorcycles need T-CLOCS inspection
Classroom Exercises and Advanced Riding Skills for Risk Perception

Private Lessons Requirements
Student vehicles must pass the T-CLOCS.

2 1/2 hour sessions: $200 per session

IN PERSON: Monday through Thursday from 9am to 5pm at the FDU Office of Continuing Education.

FDU reserves the right to schedule students for alternate class dates than those requested on the registration form.
Registrants who decline the alternate dates will receive a full refund. Changes in registration dates are accepted up to 5 business days before  course, with a $50 rescheduling fee.
