Theater Faculty - Michelle Tobias
Michelle Tobias is a NYC-based lighting designer and teacher for theatre and dance.
Michelle brings light to many productions in and around the city. Various venues include New York University, The Access Theatre, Urban Stages, The Paradise Factory, and, of course, Fairleigh Dickinson University. In addition to her own design work, her assistant work has led her to The Juilliard School, The Lortel Theatre, La Mama, and The Westport Country Playhouse, CT.
In addition to being a freelance designer, Michelle is also a teacher and master electrician. She is the resident designer and tech director at 2 NYC private schools. Also at her schools, she teaches a Lighting Design Elective to students with an interest in pursuing the technical side of theatre. She frequently works with the students at NYU and FDU when she serves as the master electrician.
Michelle has been working at FDU as a guest designer and master electrician for the past 3 years. In the spring, she will be teaching a CAD-drafting class, bringing the students up to date on industry standard technology.
