Journalism Minor*

Department of Communication Studies

 

The 15-credit Journalism minor is intended for students who seek to develop a richer understanding of broadcast, online, and print media. The purpose of the minor in journalism is to offer students the opportunity to build a skill-set suitable for the professional field of news media. Students can choose from a variety of courses, such as news writing, news editing and article writing. They can also gain newsroom experience through the Practicum course or the completion of a department approved Internship.

  • COMM3431   Sports Information Writing
  • COMM3432   Sports Journalism
  • COMM3248   Writing for Podcast & Broadcast (formerly called Writing for Radio & Television)
  • COMM4001   Communication Internship (internship MUST be with a newspaper, magazine, or other pre-approved organization)
  • ENGW3005   Critical Writing and Reviewing
  • ENGW3013   Article Writing
  • ENGW3014   Writing about the Arts
  • ENGW3044   Writing about Food
  • ENGW3045   Writing about Music

NOTE: Students who previously declared an 18-credit minor in this area must complete a "Declaration of Minor" form (available in the Records Office) in order to convert to the revised, 15-credit minor. Students who convert to the revised minor MUST complete all requirements affiliated with the 15-credit minor. No course substitutions will be permitted.
