National Communication Association - Honor Society

The Communication Studies Department is pleased to be able to offer its best and brightest students membership in Lambda Pi Eta, the student honor society of the National Communication Association. The College at Florham Chapter, Omicron Lambda inducts new members each fall and in addition to special trips and events, the group undertakes some type of volunteer effort each year as well.

Lambda Pi Eta represents what Aristotle described in his book, Rhetoric, as the three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) relating to emotion, and Ethos (Eta) defined as character credibility and ethics. The goals of Lambda Pi Eta are to:

  • recognize, foster, and reward outstanding scholastic achievement
  • stimulate interest in the field of communication
  • promote and encourage professional development among communication majors
  • provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas about the field
  • establish and maintain close relationships and understanding between faculty and students
  • explore options for further graduate studies.

To be eligible for membership, students must have completed 60 undergraduate credits, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25, have completed the equivalent of four communication courses, have a grade point average of at least 3.4 in these courses, and be enrolled as full-time students in good standing with the department, college, and university. Eligible students are contacted by the Department of Communication Studies and encouraged to join in chapter activities prior to induction.
