The Department of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Science is delighted to welcome three new faculty members to our department, starting in the fall 2016 semester:

Dr. Svetlana Bashkova (assistant professor) was a Post-doctoral Researcher at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and received her Ph.D. from the The City University of New York. In our department, she will teach Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis courses. Dr. Bashkova's research interests are in the area of environmental chemistry and chemistry of materials, and focus on the synthesis of environmentally benign materials based on agricultural waste, their characterization using a wide scope of analytical techniques, and their efficient application in water and air purification. Please visit her faculty profile page for more information.

Dr. Mohammed Elshaer (assistant professor) received his Ph.D. from Seton Hall University. In our department, he will teach Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry courses. Dr. Elshaer's research focuses on the interface between the fields of bioorganic chemistry, polymer chemistry and materials science, and is aimed towards understanding the chemical principles that contribute to the molecular recognition phenomena. Please visit his faculty profile page for more information.

Dr. Jia Ma (lecturer) was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Ohio State University, and received her Ph.D. from Ohio State University. Her teaching will center on Inorganic Chemistry and General Chemistry courses. Please visit her faculty profile page for more information.

Dr. Raymond Baylouny was recognized as an American Chemical Society Fellow during the American Chemical Society’s 252nd National Meeting and Exposition in Philadelphia on August 22, 2016.
