Trustees Resolution

J. Michael Adams

WHEREAS, J. Michael Adams served as president of Fairleigh Dickinson University since 1999, leading the University to an illustrious period of prosperity and distinction; creating a new vision, built upon the University’s traditions and 21st-century imperatives; inspiring an incredible sense of mission throughout the community and guiding FDU to numerous accomplishments earning national and international recognition;

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams — with passion, agility and the unique ability to make everything personal — unified the University around the theme of preparing world citizens and instilled a renewed commitment to the importance of education for transforming lives and building a better world;

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams engineered an incredible list of achievements that enhanced the FDU experience, including developing new identities for the New Jersey campuses; raising enrollment while improving the student profile; dedicating great resources to new facilities and capital improvements; forging special partnerships with local and global institutions from community colleges to the United Nations; creating innovative programs such as the Global Virtual Faculty, U.N. Pathways, groundbreaking online course offerings, Puerta al Futuro, a model support program for veterans and a school of pharmacy, to name only a few; establishing an internationally renowned polling institute; building a new campus in Canada; stimulating record-setting levels of support and completing the largest capital campaign in University history;

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams’ influence and reputation in the field of global education brought great renown to Fairleigh Dickinson University as he restored the University’s alliance with and became president of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP); published numerous articles and spoke widely on global education and co-authored Coming of Age in a Globalized World: The Next Generation; and served as a Governing Council member of the United Nations University, a National Council member of the United Nations Association of the United States of America, a Steering Committee member of the World Bank’s Researchers Alliance for Development and an editorial advisory board member for the magazine International Educator;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the members of the Board of Trustees express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Adams for his extraordinary leadership, wisdom and inspiration; applaud his impeccable character, integrity and fortitude; and affirm their commitment to forward his vision and extend FDU’s global mission to the next generation and beyond.
